用件(ようけん)business, thing to be done, something that should be perfomed, information that should be conveyed

部長(ぶちょう)に用件(ようけん)を手短(てみじか)に伝(つた)えました。

I briefly explained my business to the manager.

部下(ぶか)：「あの〜…。」上司(じょうし)：「用件(ようけん)は何(なん)だい？」

Subordinate: 'Um...' Boss: 'What's your business?'

電話(でんわ)：「留守番(るすばん)電話(でんわ)です。用件(ようけん)をお伝(つた)え下(くだ)さい。」

Phone: 'This is an answering machine. Please leave a message (with the information you want to convey).'

取引(とりひき)先(さき)で用件(ようけん)を済(す)まさない限(かぎ)り、私(わたし)たちは会社(かいしゃ)に帰(かえ)る事(こと)が出来(でき)ません。

Unless we finish our business at the client's place, we cannot return to the company.
