起(お)き上(あ)がるto rise, to erect, to get up

朝(あさ)は、起(お)き上(あ)がるのが大変(たいへん)だ。

In the morning, it's hard to get up.

ベッドから起(お)き上(あ)がると、頭(あたま)が痛(いた)かった。

When I got up from the bed, my head hurt.

マッスルマンは、何度(なんど)倒(たお)されても必(かなら)ず起(お)き上(あ)がる。

Muscleman always gets back up no matter how many times he's knocked down.

看護師：「ゆっくり起き上がれますか？」患者：「はい。でもまだ腰が痛いです。」

Nurse: "Can you get up slowly?" Patient: "Yes. But my back still hurts."

先生(せんせい)：「上田(うえだ)さん、今月(こんげつ)３回目(かいめ)の遅刻(ちこく)ですよ？」生徒(せいと)：「すみません。朝日(あさひ)が眩(まぶ)しすぎて、起(お)き上(あ)がれなかったんです。」

Teacher: "Ueda, this is your third time being late this month." Student: "I'm sorry. The morning sun was too bright, and I couldn't get up."
