省(かえり)みるto reflect on (oneself, past conduct, etc.), to contemplate, to examine, to think over, to introspect

昔(むかし)の愚行(ぐこう)を省(かえり)みてその行(おこな)いを恥(は)じる。

Reflecting on past follies, one feels ashamed of their actions.

神(かみ)：「胸(むね)に手(て)を当(あ)てて己(おのれ)を省(かえり)みてみなさい。」

God: "Place your hand on your chest and try to reflect on yourself."
