社(やしろ)shrine (usually Shinto)

社(やしろ)には神様(かみさま)が祀(まつ)られている。

巫女(みこ)：「社(やしろ)にはお履物(はきもの)や被(かぶ)り物(もの)を脱(ぬ)いでお上(あ)がりください。」

Shrine Maiden: 'Please remove your shoes and hats before entering the shrine.'

社(やしろ)で願(ねが)い事(ごと)をする際(さい)は、その前(まえ)にお賽銭(さいせん)を入(い)れる事(こと)になっています。

When making a wish at the shrine, it is customary to put in an offering beforehand.
