À propos de がん～

ガン見(み) is a noun that acts as a する-Verb in order to convey that someone is looking at something with fixation. Originally, it is a colloquial abbreviation of ガンガン見(み)る, with ガンガン being an onomatopoeic expression that can be interpreted as 'furiously', or 'vigorously' in certain contexts.

ガン can be attached to the stem form of certain verbs to create new する-Verbs, or attached to certain pre-existing する-Verbs.

As you are exposed to Japanese more and more, seeing certain onomatopoeia structures shortened like this will be quite common, and many of them are only used in some specific phrases. In this case ガン is not usually attached to other words, and words like ガン見(み) are considered a standalone expressions. Due to this, it will be important to look up similar expressions on a case-by-case basis in order to determine if the onomatopoeic part is acting as a prefix, or is just a set phrase.

    Because I worked four hours overtime, the second I got home, I completely conked out on the sofa.

  • 顧客(こきゃく)の個人情報(こじんじょうほう)リストを失(な)くしてしまって、上司(じょうし)にガン詰(づ)めされた。

    I lost the customer’s personal information list and got majorly pressed on it by my boss.

  • 昨日(きのう)の帰(かえ)りが遅(おそ)くなった理由(りゆう)を、妻(つま)にガン詰(づ)めされた。

    My wife completely hounded me about why I came home late yesterday.
