À propos de ～に値する

に値(あたい)する is a phrase that means something 'deserves' something or 'is worthy' of something. It is made up of the particle に and the する verb 値(あたい)する.

Grammatically, に値(あたい)する will come directly after nouns or verbs in their dictionary form. The thing marked by に will be the thing that is 'worthy'.

The negative form, に値(あたい)しない, can also be used. As expected, に値(あたい)しない means something 'is not worthy' or 'does not deserve' something.

Fun Fact

The kanji 値 has three common readings, チ, ね, and あたい. チ is most often used in compound words and will represent the idea of 'value'. ね is normally used in relation to 'price' or 'cost'. あたい, meaning 'worth', is less common in everyday language outside of formal writing or set expressions like に値(あたい)する.
