Tentang Kata Kerja-う (Kamus)

In this Topic, we're going to get our first look at Japanese verbs, and learn about two main types. る-Verbs and う-Verbs. Knowing the difference is important, as it affects how they conjugate (change so other words can attach to them).

This is something that I do find a little frustrating about bunpro.
I want to learn the details and specifics of words/kanji/grammar, but then I read an N5 sentence where the translation is “the gist” of the meaning rather than a more precise translation, and there is nothing to indicate this.
I already knew hanashi as story/talk/tale, so I could infer that the actual translation should be more along the lines of “what the teachers are saying”, but bunpro doesn’t indicate this. If this were a sentence with unfamiliar words or grammar then I would be lost if I tried to use it to learn from. I would be more likely to pick up bad habits.
There are other apps, such as kanjistudy or elon.io that use example sentences but also allow the reader to click on each individual word to find out what purpose it serves in the sentence, in terms of meaning and syntax.

maybe this will help: the の as particle is almost always possessive, playing the role “of”. 先生の話 is the story of the sensei, or in this context, what the sensei has to say/impart.

Thanks
I have a year’s more experience now with this grammar point. I am accustomed to it, and @casual’s explanation was what I was looking for. The fact that it is an expression, rather than a literal translation.
It is a fairly common expression, so it would be great for this to be included in a Bunpro lesson to help out new learners.
Sometimes when we know a lot, it can be difficult to appreciate what exactly it is that new learners don’t know.
