About がん~

ガン() is a noun that acts as a する-Verb in order to convey that someone is looking at something with fixation. Originally, it is a colloquial abbreviation of ガンガン()る, with ガンガン being an onomatopoeic expression that can be interpreted as 'furiously', or 'vigorously' in certain contexts.

ガン can be attached the the stem form of certain verbs to create new する-Verbs, or attached to certain pre-existing する-Verbs.

As you are exposed to Japanese more and more, seeing certain onomatopoeia structures shortened like this will be quite common, and many of them are only used in some specific phrases. In this case ガン is not usually attached to other words, and words like ガン() are considered a standalone expressions. Due to this, it will be important to look up similar expressions on a case-by-case basis in order to determine if the onomatopoeic part is acting as a prefix, or is just a set phrase.
