全(まった)く～ないNot~at all

Both 全く～ない and あまり～ない express negation, but differ in degree. 全く～ない indicates a complete absence, e.g. 全く寒くない ('It's not cold at all.'). あまり～ない suggests a lesser degree, e.g. あまり寒くない ('It's not very cold.').

While both 決して〜ない and 全く〜ない express negation, their nuances differ. 決して〜ない is a stronger, more emphatic expression meaning 'never' or 'by no means', and often carries an emotional or resolute tone. 全く〜ない translates as 'not at all' and conveys a more general or objective negation. The choice between them depends on context and the speaker's emotional stance.

Both express rarity or lack of frequency, but with different focus. 全く〜ない means something happens infrequently, e.g. 全く外食しない ('I hardly ever eat out.') なかなか〜ない suggests it doesn't happen easily or readily, often due to circumstances, e.g. 忙しくてなかなか外食できない ('I can't easily eat out because I'm so busy.')

全く～ない and とても～ない both express strong negation, but differ in nuance. 全く～ない is used to completely deny or negate something, indicating total absence or lack. とても～ない, on the other hand, implies an extreme state or condition that makes something impossible, adding a nuance of implausibility or incapability.

全く～ない and すこしも～ない are emphatic negatives that can both mean 'not at all' or 'not even a little'. For example, 全く飲まない and 少しも飲まない both mean 'I don't drink at all.' or 'I don't drink even a little.'. While often interchangeable, すこしも may sound unnatural when there's no nuance of amount or degree. For example, 全く行ったことがない ('I haven't gone at all.'), which wouldn't fit with すこしも.

Both ぜんぜん (with a negative verb) and 全く～ない mean 'not at all,' e.g. ぜんぜんできない and 全くできない both mean 'I can't do it at all.', with ぜんぜん being more casual in tone. In modern speech, both can occasionally appear with affirmative forms, e.g. ぜんぜん大丈夫 ('It's completely fine.'), though this was traditionally considered improper use.
