General Settings Overview

Summary: Below you'll find various settings related to general Bunpro activities that will allow you to customize your experience to your preference.

Last updated: Mar 11, 2025

What is Start Page?

The dropdown options will allow you to select whether you are automatically directed to the Dashboard page or Profile page upon either signing in or using the home button.

What is Review Forecast?

Choose whether you prefer the Review Forecast, located on the Dashboard, to be shown by default in hourly or daily intervals.

What is Hide Streak?

Whether you do one Review or even one Cram item per day, if you do this on consecutive days within 24 hours of each other you will build a 'Streak'. As long as you maintain this schedule the Streak will continue like normal. For those who wish not to see this item on their Dashboard ever again, simply change the toggle from No to Yes!

You are also able to change your streak number at any time in the settings sub-menu Reset, found here. If you want to have your own schedule you build a streak off of, you are more than welcome to!

What is the Wanikani API key?

If you are subscribed to Wanikani, you can hide furigana for kanji and vocabulary that you have added to your reviews on Wanikani. Select Wanikani from the Furigana dropdown menu and enter Version 1 of your Wanikani API key in the entry field. Click save below and you are all set!

For a much more detailed overview of the WaniKani sync functionality inside Bunpro, please check out this article!

What is Wanikani Master Content?

Pressing this button will immediately sync any prior-learned words from your WK account to be marked as Mastered inside of Bunpro. This means that you will never see this word come up in any of your future lessons ever again to help avoid burnout and overstudying.

What is Wanikani Extra Practice?

Pressing this button will immediately take any of your Wanikani Guru-ranked vocab and change them to be Seasoned 1 inside of Bunpro. If you're familiar with the vocab words but still wish to see them again in the future (unlike Mastered, explained above) then this will be the option for you. For a quick primer on what the SRS Names are in Bunpro, please see the next point:

What is Furigana?

Furigana is the reading aid that appears either above or to the side of words consisting of Kanji that let the reader know how things are pronounced. With this setting in particular, you can choose to either have them completely on or off by default. The third and final setting, labeled Wanikani, is used for when you have synced your Wanikani progress to Bunpro via the API key mentioned above. With this setting, there will be no furigana for words you have already learned but will be shown for words you have not yet learned in Wanikani.

What is Furigana On Hover?

Depending on your selection to the choice described above, furigana may not be shown for a particular word in Bunpro. To see it, simply place your cursor over the word and it will be shown.

This is the outcome for when you have the Furigana setting set to 'off' (or, with Wanikani, the word already marked as known.)

What is Hide English?

This gives you the option to turn off English sentences that appear under Examples on a grammar point’s page. Change Hide English to “Yes" and save. You will now have the English sentence hidden under Examples and you can toggle it on and off with a click.

What is Listening Mode?

This toggle simply allows you to hide all English and Japanese on a grammar point page's example sentences, allowing you listen to the audio without first seeing the sentence. Helpful for those who wish to focus on their listening skills.

What is Standard/Formal Focus?

Inside of each grammar point, there is a toggle in the Structure field that allows users to switch between 'Standard' tone (i.e. used among friends) and 'Formal' tone (i.e. used with those you aren't familiar with.) This setting simply chooses the default of which side you would like to see in the Structure field. You can still use the toggle field whenever you desire, however.

What is Show NSFW Content?

This toggle allows the user the option to have access and see NSFW content and decks.

What is Batch Size?

The Study page batches a number of grammar points together, so that you can go through all of them at once and be quizzed at the end. Set the number of grammar points that you feel comfortable studying and adding to your review queue here.

The quiz at the end of a Study session automatically adds the grammar points that you studied to your review queue. Right now you can study an unlimited number of batches, but we recommend that you take your time and familiarize yourself with the content and really feel comfortable before moving on.

What is Review SRS?

Select Show to display your SRS indicator during your review session.

Each grammar point has a total of 12 SRS intervals (the number of times you see a grammar point appear in your review queue) before a grammar point is considered “mastered” (Wanikani users will be familiar with their wording of it called “burned"). The SRS algorithm is 4hrs, 8hrs, 24hrs, 2 days, 4 days, 8 days, 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months for finished. This means that if your SRS indicator displays “3" in your reviews and you get your answer correct, you will see a new sentence for that grammar point in two days time.

bunprosrs

Intervals

When the review is created and how many total times you will see a sentence for a particular grammar point.

Review SRS

The SRS number (indicator) that you see during reviews and the number of stamps (hankos) you see filled in on the Meaning page of a grammar point. For example, if you get your first review correct (Interval 1, SRS indicator 0), you will see the SRS number change to “1” and a stamp will be added to the Meaning page of that grammar point.

Next Review

When you will see the item appear in your reviews next. In the case of Normal Reviews, once you add something to your review queue, it will automatically be available for review. With Ghost Reviews, when a review is created it behaves like getting a normal review wrong and sets the SRS to show the same sentence again in four hours.

Get Review Correct

The amount of time until you see a review for an item after you get that particular Interval/SRS level correct.

What is Vacation Mode?

This toggle will allow you to temporarily pause all upcoming reviews for an indefinite amount of time. Simply toggle it on and then when you return and are ready to resume your SRS schedule, hit the toggle again and everything will go back to normal. Useful for those literally going on vacation or for those who simply need some time away from SRS to reset their mind a little bit!
