保護者(ほごしゃ)guardian, protector, patron, parent

保護者(ほごしゃ)は未成年者(みせいねんしゃ)を保護(ほご)する必要(ひつよう)があります。

Guardians need to protect minors.

子供(こども)の親(おや)、またはそれに代(か)わる者(もの)を保護者(ほごしゃ)と言(い)います。

The parents or those who take their place are called guardians.
