謙譲語(けんじょうご)humble language (e.g. itadaku)

謙譲語(けんじょうご)は敬語(けいご)の一種(いっしゅ)である。

Humble language is a type of honorific language.

自分(じぶん)を低(ひく)めて相手(あいて)を高(たか)める敬語(けいご)が謙譲語(けんじょうご)だ。

Humble language, which lowers oneself and elevates the other person, is called humble language.

謙譲語(けんじょうご)には「うかがう」や「いただく」といった特別(とくべつ)の語(ご)があります。
