À propos de にしたがって
By grouping the う-Verb 従う 'to comply' with に, a common pattern meaning 'to comply with (A)', 'in accordance with (A)', or 'following (A)' will be created. This is a fairly strong and formal structure, indicating that (B) is being controlled or heavily influenced by (A). (B) will often express some kind of ongoing or sudden change caused by (A).
に従って may appear after either verbs or nouns in their dictionary forms.
As this expression is quite formal, it is common to see it used in relation to matters that are usually discussed in formal or official situations, such as laws, standards, conventions, or traditions.

I guess に則って wouldn’t work here as the 有名な育児本 cannot be considered “a thing that has some kind of inception point from which point little, if anything, changed”.
In any case, I agree with you that, in this particular sentence, a hint could be included to guide you in the right direction.
@Chihiro , @Fuga , おはようございます!
Is my assumption correct and, if so, does it make sense to include a hint whenever に則って is entered as an answer for this particular example sentence?
Thank you in advance
Fuga
Hey @okayfrog and @Pablunpro !
に則って would not work here since this grammar point is used for things like laws, traditions, standards, codes of conduct, etc. Since a 育児本 is not any of them, using にしたがって, which has a broader usage, would be more natural!
However, since the translations are similar we have just added a hint for に則って!
okayfrog
ahh, that’s interesting, real good to know. I’ll keep that in mind, thank you.
