About する (Cost)
Although する is most often translated as 'to do', it has some other uses in Japanese which may not be immediately intuitive. One such use is to say the price of something. Because する is an active verb, it can be thought of as being similar to English phrases where an item actively holds its value, such as 'commanding a price' or 'exhibiting a certain worth'.
When used in this way, the item in question will be marked by は or が. The price itself acts adverbially, so has no particle attached, and する directly follows it.
Compared to simply stating the cost of something, using する can sound similar to saying 'It will run you about...' in English. It implies something worth noting, often signifying something expensive.
When used in this way, する can also be used in questions to ask how much something costs.
