「というものでもない」の情報

「というものではない」は「必(かなら)ずしも (A) とは言(い)えない」や「いつも (A) とは限(かぎ)らない」ことを示(しめ)す表現(ひょうげん)です。これは「と」と五段動詞(ごだんどうし)「言(い)う」、「もの」、そして「ではない」の組(く)み合(あ)わせでできており、文字(もじ)通(どお)り「それは (A) だと言(い)えるようなものではない」という意味(いみ)を表(あらわ)します。

「は」は「も」と置(お)き換(か)えられることがあり、他(ほか)の多(おお)くの文法(ぶんぽう)表現(ひょうげん)と同様(どうよう)に、「も」を使(つか)うことで少(すこ)し婉曲的(えんきょくてき)なニュアンスが出(で)ます。

「というものではない」は基本的(きほんてき)に普通形(ふつうけい)であればどんな語(ご)にも続(つづ)けて使(つか)うことができます。名詞(めいし)やナ形容詞(けいようし)と一緒(いっしょ)に使(つか)う場合(ばあい)は「だ」を伴(ともな)うこともあります。（ただし、必須(ひっす)ではありません。）

この表現は、(A) であることが多(おお)い中(なか)で、例外(れいがい)もあることを示(しめ)したいときに使(つか)われることがほとんどです。

豆知識(まめちしき)

「というものではない」は「であれば」を含(ふく)む節(せつ)の後(あと)に使(つか)われることもよくあります。このような文(ぶん)では、「仮(かり)に (A) であっても、必(かなら)ず (B) になるとは限(かぎ)らない」という意味(いみ)が強調(きょうちょう)されています。

    というものでもない is used when the speaker want to express how an idea for a statement is not necessarily true and that there are other possibilities. わけがない is used to state that a statement is definitely not possible. とは限らない is used when the speaker wants to express that the idea is not wrong, but there are circumstances where it may not apply.

    小さい商店だからといって、売り上げが悪いというものでもない。
    ’ It is not necessarily true that just because it is a small shop, that it has bad sales.’
    The nuance that this has is, ‘The idea that you have that this store has bad sales because it is small is not right. It could be a very popular store with a owner that wants to keep the shop small. There are many other factors to prove your reasoning wrong.’

    ここは小さい商店だから、売り上げがいいわけがない。(sentence changed so that it makes sense)
