About ったら・といったら

といったらない is a set expression used to highlight a very high extent of something (like being disappointed, astonished and so on), to the point of not being able to describe it with mere words. Unlike ったらない it is only used in a negative context, and often follows words like 図々しい、ばかばかしい、恥ずかしい、みっともない、情けない and the like.




    'I cannot tell you how difficult it is to run on uneven terrain.'


    'I cannot tell you how irresponsible it is to keep a dog but not take care of it.'


    Boss: 'You are late for work every single day. I can't tell you how unseemly it is!'


    'I cannot express the attitude of Sadao's former employees after his company went bankrupt.'


    'I was awoken by my roommate who returned home late last night. I can't tell you how angry I am.'
