About に至って・に至り

Just like in other grammar points that include the う-Verb (いた)る 'to result in', or 'to reach a climax', (いた)って will indicate (A) as an extreme extent from which (B) results. The case marking particle に will mark either a verb or noun as the extent that (いた)る is signifying as being extreme. Common translations include 'only when (A), did (B)', and 'going as far as to (A), (B)'.
  • 先輩(せんぱい)注意(ちゅうい)される(いた)って、どれだけ(おれ)自分(じぶん)勝手(かって)だったかが()かった。
    It wasn't until I was warned by a senior colleague that I realized how selfish I had been.
  • 工場(こうじょう)(おお)きな事故(じこ)発生(はっせい)する(いた)って安全(あんぜん)大会(たいかい)実施(じっし)する(よう)では、この工場(こうじょう)では事故(じこ)()こり(つづ)けます。
    If a safety meeting is held only after a major accident occurs at the plant, accidents will continue to occur at this plant.
  • 糖尿病(とうにょうびょう)(いた)って食生活(しょくせいかつ)()をつける(よう)になった。

  • この(とし)(いた)って会社(かいしゃ)()()げるなんて、自分(じぶん)でもびっくりだよ。
    Deciding to start a company only after reaching such an age, even I am surprised.
The extreme extent that (いた)って implies will often be the result of something that has been left far too long in a certain state. Due to this, (いた)って is often used in relation to criticism of a lack of action.
As with many other grammar structures that use verbs, occasionally the formal conjunctive (いた)り will replace the standard て-form (いた)って.
Caution
(いた)って and (いた)っても have quite different meanings, the primary thing to be aware of is as follows.
(A) (いた)って (B) - Only when reaching the extreme of (A) did (B) occur.
(A) (いた)っても (B) - Even if reaching the extreme of (A), (B) won't occur.
(いた)っても will be covered in its own grammar point.
