The two Japanese phrases, すると and そのため(に), are used in different contexts. すると is used to indicate a natural or logical outcome or consequence of a certain action, it is often translated as 'and then', 'if', or 'when'. On the other hand, そのため(に) is commonly used to express the cause or reason for a certain outcome, it is often translated as 'for that reason', 'because of that' or 'hence'.

そのため(に) and それで both show cause and effect. それで is casual and used in everyday speech: 道が混んでた。それで遅れた ('The road was crowded, so I was late.'). そのため is more formal and can also express purpose, e.g. 健康のため、運動している 'I'm exercising for my health.').

These share the same core construction, using ため(に) to express 'in order to (A)' or 'due to (A)'. ため(に) is used within a sentence after a noun, verb, or adjective phrase. そのため is used at the beginning of a sentence to mean 'for that reason' or 'due to that', referring back to what was just said.

そのため(に) can be seen as a more specific version of ために. ために follows a noun, verb, or adjective phrase to express purpose or reason. そのため(に) appears at the beginning of a sentence and means 'due to that' or 'in order to do that', referring back to what was previously said.

Both expressions relate to cause and effect, but in opposite directions: なぜなら〜から gives the reason for something previously stated, while そのため(に) introduces the result of a prior situation. Additionally, そのために can also express purpose, a meaning なぜなら〜から does not carry.

Both せいで and そのため(に) show cause and effect, but せいで follows a word or phrase and implies a negative result or blame, e.g. 台風のせいで試合が中止になった ('The game was canceled because of the typhoon'), while そのため(に) is used at the beginning of the sentence and neutrally shows a logical result of whatever was previously stated. そのため(に) can also express 'for the purpose of (A)', which is a nuance せいで cannot have.
